Computing Curriculum

Intent:

At Saughall All Saints Primary School, our Computing curriculum is designed to meet the content requirements of the National Curriculum. We believe that technology is changing the lives of everyone and endeavour to keep up with these developments. Through the teaching of Computing, we provide children with the skills and confidence required to use technology safely and creatively both in school and at home. Developing good computing skills gives children the opportunity to raise their attainment and progress across the curriculum, enabling them to be confident, creative and independent learners across a wide breadth of subjects. Our aim is to recognise cultural capital differences amongst pupils, ensuring all children receive equal opportunities and fair access to resources and technology as they deserve.

Implementation:

Through an engaging, innovative and inspiring curriculum, Saughall All Saints staff deliver Computing to all pupils on a weekly basis in line with the Teach Computing scheme of work. This is new to our school as of January 2023 and will continually be reviewed as a working scheme, ensuring the needs of our children are being met at all times. Every pupil has an individual physical folder to record planning and unplugged activities which their teacher uses to evaluate learning against assessment outcomes. Each pupil also has a digital folder on the shared server to encourage the use of saving work electronically and personally. Children learn how to be safe and respectful digital citizens throughout the school and the importance of promoting and understanding e-Safety is prioritised. Equal importance is given to Digital Literacy, Computer Science and Information Technology and computational thinking approaches and concepts underpin all areas of this curriculum. We learn and apply computing skills through the wider curriculum across a range of subjects and all members of staff effectively seek to promote our school's expectations within this subject.

Impact:

Our Computing curriculum is well thought out and is planned to demonstrate progression. If children are keeping up with the curriculum, they are making good progress or better progress. In addition, we seek to measure the impact of our curriculum through termly pupil voice and work assessed against planned outcomes.  _
