What’s happening this term
Our Topic this term is a Geography based topic where we will be looking at the rainforests around the world focusing on South American rainforests.
As young geographers the children will be:
- Learning how longitude and latitude are used to locate places in the world.
- Use atlases to locate the world’s rainforest, particularly those in South America.
- Explore the climatic conditions that support rainforests and the impact rainforests have on global weather.
- Understand the impact of human activities on the natural rainforest habitats and steps taken to protect them
This half term we are learning about persuasion, we are going to learn how to use persuasive techniques and plan to write persuasive letters.
These persuasive letters will be based around the use of palm oil and deforestation of rainforests.
Light and sound is our Science unit where as young scientists the children will be investigating:
Sources of light and sort materials into those which are good and bad reflectors of light.
Describe what a reflection in a mirror looks like.
Draw a diagram that explains how shadows are formed.
Sort materials into those that are opaque, translucent and transparent.
How to make shadows bigger or smaller.
